Step Forward: Sonic Visions

PhD researcher Jess Boyall has co-curated an exhibition, series of screenings and live performance programme at Ormside Projects, 24th – 28th November 2024. Drawing on the London Community Video Archive’s extensive collection, the programme showcases films, live performances, and sonic artworks, alongside an audio-visual exhibition, in order to explore the intimate relationship between music, community and visual culture.

Rarely seen productions include  a recently re-edited version of Carol Jacob’s Step Forward (1988), a People-to-People Channel 4 documentary about South East London’s Black music scene.  This will be screened alongside contemporary films and live performances by DJs and selectors, including Lord Tusk and Living Gatlato, as well as a specially commissioned audio-lecture by Edward George and Ben Swaby Selig’s remarkable audio-visual piece Sound Clash (first exhibited at Frieze in 2024).
